Reading

At Lakey Lane, we are determined that every pupil will learn to read. We are resolute that every pupil will learn to read by the age of 7. Reading is the bedrock to our curriculum because we want every pupil to read widely and to gain a rich knowledge of each subject across the curriculum. We want our pupils’ to become life-long readers who enjoy books and have a desire to read for pleasure.

Our curriculum Key Drivers:

Aspirations – Reading will unlock a world of possibilities allowing children to discover a world they didn’t know existed.   

Citizenship – Through reading, a Lakey Lane pupil will develop culturally, emotionally, intellectually, socially and spiritually which will allow them to make a positive difference to society.

Equality – Reading is a right in our world and we will ensure every child is able to read by the age of 7
